Quality Management System - ISO 9001: 2008
Reasons for development
ISO 9001 : 2008 has been developed to assist organizations, of all types and sizes, to implement and operate effective quality management systems.
It has been aligned with ISO 14001 : 1996 in order to enhance the compatibility of the two standards for the benefit of the user community.
It enables an organization to align or integrate its own quality management system with related management system requirements.
It is possible for an organization to adapt its existing management system(s) in order to establish a quality management system that complies with the requirements of this International Standard.
Scope
ISO 9001 : 2008 gives requirements for an quality management system, to enable an organization to control its activities and improve its performance.
§ It does not state specific quality performance criteria, nor does it give detailed specifications for the design of a management system.
§ It specifies requirements for a quality management system where an organization needs to demonstrate its ability to consistently provide product that meets customer and applicable regulatory requirements, and aims to enhance customer satisfaction through the effective application of the system, including processes for continual improvement of the system and the assurance of conformity to customer and applicable regulatory requirements.

Applicability
All requirements of ISO 9001 : 2008 International Standard are generic and are intended to be applicable to all organizations, regardless of type, size and product provided.
ISO 9001 : 2008 is applicable to any organization where: Needs to demonstrate its ability to consistently provide product that meets customer and applicable regulatory requirements.
Aims to enhance customer satisfaction through the effective application of the system, including processes for continual improvement of the system and the assurance of conformity to customer and applicable regulatory requirements.
Where any requirement(s) of this International Standard cannot be applied due to the nature of an organization and its product, this can be considered for exclusion.
Environmental Management System - ISO 14001
Reasons for development
ISO 14001 has been developed to be compatible with ISO 9001:2000 (quality management system) and demonstrate the combinability of both systems to those organizations already operating one of these international standards and which may wish to operate both.
Scope
ISO 14001 specified requirements for an environmental management system, to enable an organization to formulate a policy and objectives taking into account legislative requirements and information about significant environmental impacts.
§ It applies to those environmental aspects, which the organization can control and over which it can be expected to have an influence.
§ It does not itself state specific environmental performance criteria.

§ Support environmental protection and prevention of pollution in balance with socio-economic needs.
§ Control the impact of the organizations activities, products or services on the environment.

Applicability
ISO 14001 is applicable to any organization that whishes to:
§ Implement, maintain and improve an environmental management system.
§ Assure itself of its conformance with its stated environmental policy.
§ Demonstrate such conformance to others.
§ Seek certification l registration of its environmental management system by an external organization.
§ Make a self-determination and self-declaration of conformance with this standard.
§ It is applicable to all types and sizes of organizations and to accommodate diverse geographical, cultural and social conditions.
§ All the requirement of this international standard are intended to be incorporated into any environmental management system.
§ The extent of the application will depend on such factors as the environmental policy of the organization, the nature of its activities and the conditions in which it operates.
Occupational Health and Safety Management System - OHSAS 18001
Reasons for development
OHSAS 18001 has been developed:
§ To be compatible with ISO 9001:2000 (Quality) and ISO 14001:2004 (environmental) management systems standards, in order to facilitate the quality, environment and occupational health and safety management systems by organizations, should they wish to do so.
§ In response to urgent customer demand for a recognizable occupational health and safety management system standard against which their management systems can be assessed and certified.
Scope
OHSAS 18001 gives requirements for an occupational health and safety management system, to enable an organization to control its occupational health and safety risks and improve its performance.
§ It does not state specific occupational health and safety performance criteria, nor does it give detailed specifications for the design of a management system.

1. Establish an occupational health and safety management system to eliminate or minimize risk to employees and other interested parties who may be exposed to occupational health and safety risks associated with its activities.
2. Assure itself of its conformance with its stated occupational health and safety policy.
3. Demonstrate such conformance to others.
§ The extended of the application will depend on such factors as the occupational health and safety policy of the organization, the nature of its activities and the risks and complexity of its operations.
§ This OHSAS specification is intended to address occupational health and safety rather than product and services safety.
ISO/IEC 17025:2005
Reasons for development
ISO/IEC 17025:2005 is the result of extensive experience in the implementation of ISO/IEC Guide 25 and EN 45001, both of which it now replaces.
§ Itcontains all of the requirements that testing and calibration laboratories have to meet if they wish to demonstrate that they operate a quality system, are technically competent, and are able to generate technically valid results.
Scope
ISO/IEC 17025:2005 is intended primarily for laboratories that wish to demonstrate competence, whether or not they desire accreditation.
§ It also provides uniform general accreditation criteria with numerous explanatory notes to reduce the need for further application documents.

HACCP System
Reasons for development
HACCP System has been established to put the responsibility for the safety of the products in the hands of food business operators on the basis of the principles used for the development of the HACCP system.
Scope
HACCP System describes the criteria for testing the reliability and functioning of a HACCP system to ensure product safety
Benefits
Processors can influence their suppliers to adopt a similar approach to food (ingredient or raw materials) safety.
§ There is perceived sense of enhanced quality
